24 Things I Wish I Had Known Before I Started Blogging
Currently, my blog generates between $5,000 and $15,000 per month (with peaks of up to $25,000 per month and troughs of up to $3,000 per month depending on seasonality and the launch of my course).
That, however, did not occur overnight. I wish I had known a number of things before starting a blog since they would have save me a ton of time, money, and stress.
It has taken me six years to expand my blog to the point where I now have 25,000–50,000 readers per month from the day I discovered how to start one. I made my fair share of errors along the way, just like most bloggers do. These blogging lessons occasionally made me slower, but I didn’t let any setbacks deter me for too long.
I wish I had learned a lot of things before starting a blog because blogging may have a steep learning curve.
It would have saved me a lot of time and energy to completely understand these blogging lessons in the beginning of my blog (or better yet, before starting one), and it would also have given me a more accurate sense of what to anticipate in my first year of blogging.
I hope these practical tips can sink in before starting a blog and that they’ll help you create a successful blog for yourself even faster than I did, whether you’re going to start your own blog or you’re already a seasoned blogger.
Here are the top things to know before establishing a blog, regardless of your experience running an internet business or whether you’re a brand-new blogger.
Basic Information I Wish I Had Before Starting a Blog (and the Mindset a New Blog Requires).
There are a few fundamental, basic things I wish I had understood before starting a blog, particularly in terms of mentality and having reasonable expectations about increasing blog traffic and learning how to earn money from blogging.
1. Blogging Can Be a Time-Intensive Business (and Build a Small Business)
One of the biggest myths about blogging is that it’s a terrific way to “become rich quick” or to make a lot of money quickly.
Now, I’m sure you’re smart enough to realize that you won’t start a blog on a Monday and have enough money to quit your day job by Friday afternoon.
I anticipated that I wouldn’t get wealthy overnight when I first started blogging. However, I’ll admit that I had hoped it would take place in a matter of months rather than years.
What kind of income may bloggers expect?
Full-time bloggers typically earn $45,000 on average, with the majority of them making between $38,440 and $51,906.
However, the earnings of bloggers can differ greatly. When part-time bloggers are taken into account, the majority of bloggers make relatively little money (less than $1,000 annually), especially in the first year of blogging.
You’ll have additional options to monetize your site and start making much more money as your audience increases. I currently earn anything between $5,000 and $10,000 each month from my blog, which provides me with a healthy cushion of additional income (a very meaningful amount of money).
I’ve been a blogger (part-time) for the past five years, earning between $50,000 and $100,000 annually, which I consider to be a sizable sum of money and has a significant impact on my standard of living.
My blogging income varies significantly based on a variety of factors, including the number of students enrolling in my paid blogging classes, the number of freelancing clients I accept, and how well specific pieces perform in terms of generating traffic and affiliate income.
One of the best things I ever did was start a blog and keep investing in it throughout the years.
How soon can a blogger start earning money?
If you already have an online audience that you’re monetizing with, you can start making money from blogging in as little as one month. Otherwise, don’t anticipate making large sums of money right away.
It can take a long time to monetize your site on a large scale before you reach a more significant level of income (or have numerous passive income sources). If you have the time to dedicate to growing your blog, 3 to 6 months is a reasonable time frame.
However, don’t expect to earn much money from your blog until you’ve amassed a significant amount of traffic (in the 10,000+ monthly visitor range), regardless of how long that process takes.
There are many bloggers who earn much, much more than me—some well into the several hundred thousand dollars each month—even though the majority of bloggers won’t normally make six figures from their blogs each year.
In addition, I’m living proof that you can start a blog from beginning and make money from it in as little as a few months. Finding win-win strategies to monetize with your followers and developing wise habits are the keys to running a successful blog.
All of this serves to emphasize that creating a profitable blog takes time. Not simply the time you spend each day, but also the time required for your blog to rank well in Google, to generate consistent traffic, and to establish a name for itself in your specialty
For instance, Ahrefs discovered that blog posts that rank #1 in Google are generally three years old or older.
Of course, this does not imply that you must wait three years or longer before seeing any outcomes. However, it does imply that with time, the results of your search engine optimization efforts will probably increase.
I’m sorry to tell that blogging won’t be a suitable fit for you if you’re looking to generate money quickly.
However, blogging may be the solution you’re looking for if you want to create a long-lasting, expanding business that will continue to generate income for years or decades to come.
2. It’s OK to make mistakes while starting a new blog (in fact, it’s essential).
I already explained that when I first started working on flashreviewz.com, I made a lot of mistakes. And I’m confident that I’ll continue to make a lot more.
Your blog will also contain errors from you. When establishing a blog, making mistakes is totally acceptable. Sometimes, your errors will become apparent rather soon, and you may fix them without too much difficulty. For instance, perhaps you failed to include an About Me page when you originally set up your blog.
Other errors might not become apparent right once. When it comes to your blogging approach, this frequently occurs. For instance, it can take you months before you understand why it’s important to always keep your target audience in mind when you create content if you don’t already know who they are.
Some novice bloggers are so afraid of making errors that they keep reading blogging advice and enrolling in blogging courses, but they never really launch their site.
Since you are visiting flashreviewz, I don’t want to imply that you shouldn’t read wise counsel. But don’t let your concern over making a mistake stop you from doing.
Making errors is an essential component of blogging. You can only learn and advance with your blog by trying things out and occasionally doing them wrong.
3. With a New Blog, Quality Is Much More Important Than Quantity
You might be eager to publish as many posts as you can as soon as you launch your blog. You could believe that releasing new material daily will help you achieve the best outcomes.
It’s simple to become fixated on providing as much material as you can when there are so many other outlets available, such as social networking and guest posting.
But as time has gone on, I’ve come to realize that in the world of blogging, quality is much more crucial than quantity.
You will always get more traffic from one genuinely insightful, helpful piece of content than from ten hurried pieces that you rushed off to satisfy a self-imposed quota.
That one outstanding piece will be shared, linked to, and will have a high likelihood of being at the top of Google’s search results, if not already there.
As I said from the beginning, content is king. Do not write a few lines, let’s create real value for the reader. Think of what your readers are looking for in an article and solve the reader’s problem through your article, so do not make the reader search for more articles.
To find more topics to write, please refer to the knowledge of professional bloggers and experts to select and express your way. There are many other blogs on the same topic with your blog, so take advantage of the knowledge in these blogs. Invest in your knowledge and effort and take a look at each of your posts as your brainchild.

4. Habit Formation Is Crucial (Especially When Your Time is Limited)
I had a conventional full-time job when I first started blogging. And I’ve actually only lately started working a regular full-time (remote) job again with Close.com, where I used to work before. I’m really happy about this.
Fortunately, I’m in a wonderful position to maintain my blog because I formed effective routines in the beginning of my blogging career.
Most bloggers, especially those who are more recent, have relatively little free time for blogging. It’s quite unlikely that you will blog nonstop. You must develop excellent habits because your life almost probably doesn’t operate that way, therefore you can’t just wait for the right moment to arise.
If you don’t physically block off at least a few hours each week to work on your blog—whether it’s in the mornings before your day job or in the evenings after putting your kids to bed—you won’t make progress as quickly as necessary to stay engaged over the long term, as I stated in my top blogging tip about creating smart habits.
There are many good effects if you update, write more new blog posts such as:
- Good for SEO, increase keyword rankings, the more good content, the more your website is appreciated
- Increase relationships with your readers. No one wants to wait weeks to read your next articles
- Engage advertisers: You have a lot of good content, and your site has a lot of traffics from Google, so advertisers will come to you. You will have the opportunity to make money online with your blog.
So keep the habit of writing articles regularly. I think you should take the time to write 4-5 articles per month for your blog
Take a look at your weekly schedule to get you going. Look for regular time slots when you may work on your blog. Among the most well-liked among bloggers are:
- Earliest in the morning: Make use of the extra 30 minutes by setting your alarm 30 minutes earlier. Prepare everything the previous evening so you can start right away.
- It might be beneficial to take a break from your workstation during your lunch breaks at work. Could you go out to a nearby coffee shop to get something to eat while you work on your blog?
- After a long day, if you have trouble focusing, try making tiny micro-goals for your blogging. For example, instead of saying “create a blog post,” say “outline a post.”
- On the weekends: Some bloggers work demanding full-time jobs from Monday through Friday and reserve a half-day to work on their blogs on the following Saturday or Sunday.
Find a time each week that you can utilize consistently to blog so that it becomes a habit.
5. Blogging Isn’t Dead, Far From It (and the Best Time to Start is Today)
It occasionally appears that “blogging is dead” or “no one reads blogs any more.” You would assume that this is something new, yet for more than a decade, there have been yearly rumors that blogging is no longer relevant or even alive.
No, blogging is not extinct. Blogs have developed over time to take advantage of new technologies and quicker internet connections; numerous bloggers have expanded into YouTube videos, launched podcasts, influenced social media, and more.

However, blogging is still popular, and blog entries have a good chance of showing up at the top of Google when users search for information.
I began writing on my blog in its present format in 2016. Perhaps I would have begun even sooner if I hadn’t been concerned that blogging was already extinct and about to disappear.
Now that I manage a six-figure blog, it’s obvious that blogging isn’t going anywhere.
Maybe you’ve heard the well-known Chinese saying, “The greatest time to plant a tree was 20 years ago.” Today is the second-best time.
The same is true when beginning a blog. There’s no point in wishing you could start your blog five or ten years ago because you can’t. What you can do is begin right away.
Your blogging goals will be sooner attained the earlier you start.
Prepared to Launch Your Blog?
Choosing the best blogging platform and web hosting provider is one of the major challenges for many new bloggers. Here is what I now realize and wish I had understood before.
6. WordPress is essentially always the best choice
Are you having trouble selecting the ideal blogging platform for you? Let me put it plainly: use WordPress if you want to earn money from your blog.
Since there are two different versions of WordPress—WordPress.com and WordPress.org—things become a bit complex.
The business arm of WordPress is WordPress.com. It is a self-hosted blogging option that provides you with the fundamental WordPress software, but it is less flexible than WordPress.org and gives you less control over your website.
Because of this, I suggest utilizing WordPress.org. It takes a little longer to set up, but even so, it’s still only a 10-minute process, and investing a few extra minutes now will provide you much more flexibility later on.

7. The Best Web Hosting Companies for Novices Are Bluehost and Dreamhost
Although the WordPress.org software is free, you’ll also need a domain name and web hosting service in order to build a working website.
The URL, often known as the address, of your website is known as a domain name. It’s flashreviewz.com for me. If at all feasible, pick a domain name that ends in.com because it will appear more recognizable and credible to your readers.
The online storage space for your website is provided by your web hosting package. Your web host makes your website accessible to visitors throughout the world, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
However, picking a web host can be challenging. The cost of web hosting might vary greatly, and you might not know what is a reasonable price and what is a costly scam. It’s also crucial to confirm that your web server offers a simple method for setting up WordPress on your website.
Although there are many excellent web providers available, Bluehost and Dreamhost are the two finest web hosting for beginners.
Really, neither of these can go wrong. Both will supply you with a free domain name (as long as you sign a contract with your web hosting company for at least a year).
Regarding the choice between Bluehost and Dreamhost, I’d suggest Bluehost for complete novices who aren’t very confident because the tech support is excellent and Dreamhost for anyone on a really tight budget because it’s a little less expensive and also allows month-to-month payments.
In addition, it’s okay if many new bloggers don’t have any money to spend. Check out the list of the top free blog platforms to start your own blog for free. Once you’ve built up some readership, you may worry about upgrading some of the capabilities.
8. Everything You Want to Do with Your Blog Can Be Done With a WordPress Plugin
WordPress plugins are extras that are optional. Your website can have as many plugins as you like. Although many plugins are free, some use a “freemium” business model where you must pay to access their more sophisticated features.
Would you like to include a contact form on your site? WPForms is a WordPress plugin that may be used for that.
Why not make your website’s security stronger to prevent hacking? Sucuri is a WordPress plugin that can help with that as well.
In need of SEO (search engine optimization) improvement? As you might have anticipated, there is a WordPress Plugin called Yoast SEO that will handle a lot of your SEO needs.
You actually have a variety of alternative options in addition to the plugins mentioned above for all of these tasks.
Check out my list of the top WordPress plugins for a ton more suggested plugins.
9. You Must Regularly Attend to Maintenance Tasks
You do need to take care of some site maintenance responsibilities if you choose to use a self-hosted WordPress blog rather than a hosted blogging platform like Weebly or Wix.
It doesn’t take much time to maintain your WordPress site, but you should put aside some time for it once a week. I advise you to: at least once per week.
Make a database backup for your blog (You can automate this using a plugin such as UpdraftPlus.) Although you hope you won’t ever need them, if you do, you’ll be very glad you have them and that you can restore your blog’s content rather than losing all of your hard work.
Any outdated plugins and themes should be updated. In the WordPress admin area, you may check for these under Dashboard Updates. If there are any updates to install, they will be indicated by an orange number next to “Update,” as shown below:
Updating the WordPress program from the ground up. The ideal time to do this is as soon as an update is released. Some site servers will update WordPress for you automatically. In the event that an upgrade is necessary, you’ll find a clear link in your WordPress admin area.
Some novice bloggers are concerned with publishing updates in case something goes wrong. I am aware that I once feared this. It’s quite unlikely that anything will go wrong as long as updates are executed on a regular basis, I quickly discovered. If you wait months between upgrades, issues are significantly more likely to occur.
Writing blog entries is, of course, a big component of blogging. The majority of bloggers discover that it takes them some time to acquire their writing voice and style. No problem; just keep writing! Try these blog post ideas that are intended to increase traffic if you’re having trouble getting started.
10. The Use of Internal Links Readers and SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Internal links are quite helpful, and you should add at least a few of them in every single blog article, which is something I didn’t fully know when I first started writing.
Although “internal links” may sound a little sophisticated, it is actually very straightforward. A link that takes users from one page of your website to another is known as an internal link.
You see I’m inserting 1 link in the phrase “internal link“, when you click it will switch to a different page with more in-depth article on the issue I’m talking about this. You can click on the link above to read more details on how to create an internal link properly for your blog.
The effect of internal linking is relatively large, it will help your website firmly, have a positive impact on SEO, and will help readers discover more topics that they may be interested in.
You can find an internal link to my article on blog post ideas if you skim a few paragraphs up.
That link was included for two reasons:
- To start with, I wanted to make sure you could discover relevant material on my website and I wanted to support you in starting a successful blog!
- Second, because including links in my blog entries enhances the search engine optimization of my site. Although each internal link may only have a small impact, the more posts I link to in the future, the higher the likelihood that they will rank in Google.
Even though this won’t be applicable when you just write your first blog post (because you won’t have any other posts to add internal links to), every time you finish writing a blog post, go back through it before you hit “Publish” and ensure you’ve included at least two links to other posts or pages on your blog.
11. Your Blog Posts’ Images and Formatting Make a Big Difference
Like many bloggers, when I first started posting, my attention was mostly on the writing itself. And that makes sense because the majority of a blog article is composed of words.
But I ultimately realized that when my posts looked beautiful, they seemed to get far more attention. I started devoting effort to selecting gorgeous photos that would go with my posts. I also utilized additional formatting options, such as:
- Fewer but shorter paragraphs to increase whitespace
- To make important words or sentences stand out, use bold text.
- More subheadings are needed to divide posts into manageable chunks and to increase visual interest. (Subheadings can benefit SEO as well.)
- Long postings should have “tables of contents” with links that readers can utilize to skip to the various sections.
- Pull-quotes that are distinctive and make my writings look professional In magazine articles, pull quotations are frequently employed.
Whether we like it or not, we all make judgments based on appearance. Additionally, people will suppose your piece is boring if it appears boring. Instead of publishing a ton of lengthy, poorly formatted paragraphs, try to make your piece look as appealing as you can.
12. Using a great template makes it easier to write quality blog posts.
If you read any successful blog, there’s a high chance the pieces they publish frequently use a template, or a collection of templates. Before establishing your own blog, this might not have been clear, but if you pay close attention, you’ll see recurring themes.
You shouldn’t have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what blog subjects to write about next, and you shouldn’t have to substantially change your entries to make them more readable.
Instead, while writing, utilize a template. A straightforward blog post template helps you stay organized by guiding you while you write your introduction, major content (often divided into sections), and conclusion with a strong call to action.
13. Every blog post needs to have a call to action at the end.
If you are unfamiliar with the term “call-to-action” (or any of the other numerous blogging terminology used here), which I described above, you may have questioned what it meant.
When you ask your audience to take action, you are making a call to action. That could mean something significant, such as “purchase my new product,” but it could also mean something much more modest.
As the reader instinctively pauses and considers what to do next, the end of your blog post is a wonderful opportunity for a call to action. Do they access Facebook? Answer an email? Activate Netflix? Or will they continue to read your blog?
I wish I had known certain effective calls to action before I started a blog, such as:
- Submit a comment. By inviting readers to comment on your article, you can compel them to express their opinions and participate more actively. It may also be the start of developing a relationship with a certain reader.
- View a related article. This is a straightforward call to action that demands very little work from the reader. It’s a great method to get readers to stay on your blog for longer, which increases the likelihood that they’ll become a devoted follower.
- Be a part of my email list. This kind of call to action is most effective when you’re providing a reward for signing up, like a free ebook. It would be best if your incentive had some connection to the subject of your writing.
- Buy my wares. Make sure to use the chance to direct readers to your product (or service) if it is pertinent to your writing. Remember that even if you’ve been pushing a product through your email newsletter, social media, and specific blog posts, you’ll still receive traffic from new readers who aren’t familiar with you or what you have to offer. A reminder to buy may also be needed for regular readers.
14. Your blog post’s headline is more crucial than any other section.
It’s simple to overlook the headline after spending hours creating a blog post. It’s tempting to assume that the working title you were using as you wrote will work just fine for the headline or title of your piece.
The fact that your headline is more significant than any other element of your post is something I didn’t realize when I first started blogging, and something that many other bloggers don’t realize for months or even years.
You don’t trust me?
8 out of 10 individuals, on average, just read your blog’s headline. In fact, that makes a lot of sense when you think about it. On social media, your blog post’s headline might be displayed alone, without any supporting material.
People just have the headline and a brief description to go by in search engines when determining whether or not to read your piece.
Not merely for enticing readers to click on your post, your headline is crucial. Because search engines heavily rely on the headline when determining where to rank your post for a certain search keyword, a terrible headline may never even be noticed.
This means that a lot of the work must be done by your headline. It ought to:
- Utilize the main keyword for which you want your content to be found.
- Give readers a clear explanation of the topic of your blog article so they know what to expect.
- Include eye-catching elements in your content, such as power words and statistics, to entice readers to read it.
An eye catching header will help your website get more traffic from social networks or Google, but do not overdo it. A search engine friendly title will make it easier for your website to rank on Google.
If you do not know how to write a SEO friendly title, read this article! I will list the 5 characteristics of a SEO friendly title:
- The title is not too short and not too long
- Use keywords in the title
- The title on each page or article of your website is unique, not duplicate
- The title content is inviting
- Add a brand name to the end of the title
15. The Value of Keyword Research for SEO (and Getting Traffic)
For new bloggers, search engine optimization (commonly shortened as SEO) can be very perplexing. Without really understanding the principles, you may have picked up a few SEO tips and techniques.
The first thing to understand about SEO is that keywords are crucial. After all, if someone chose to optimize for a specific esoteric phrase that nobody is actually searching for, they could undoubtedly rank #1 on Google.
Of course, that won’t increase traffic to your blog. Instead, you want to be found for the Google searches that your target audience is most likely to make.
These terms are referred to as keywords. Although they can be a single word, they are usually going to be a short sentence.
For instance, readers frequently use the following keywords to locate my blog on flashreviewz.com:
- Create a blog.
- top free blogging platforms
- What to call your blog
As you can see, those posts’ titles contain the precise phrases that people are probably searching for. This enables Google to better match my posts to relevant search terms, and it also informs users that my content will be helpful for their needs.
It’s simple to conduct keyword research, and you don’t require any expensive equipment. You may learn more about it in my tutorial on conducting keyword research.
16. It’s Important to Build Links from Other Websites
When I first started blogging, I wasn’t fully aware of how crucial backlinks are. A backlink is a link from another website to your blog. Because, whether you like it or not, authority is developed by gaining links from other (more) authoritative websites, these links are quite beneficial for improving your Google rankings.
Why? Google considers each (high-quality) link pointing to your website as a vote in favor of it. Since they wish to share it with their readers, it is usually a sign of high-quality content if many people link to your website.
Google’s E-A-T philosophy, which serves as the basis for how their algorithm strives to place the best content at the top of organic search results, is founded on the following principles:
- E: Copy
- Authenticity: a copy
- Trustworthiness: Copy
At the time of your blog’s first launch, you won’t have any hyperlinks at all. It’s crucial to begin creating these by getting to know other bloggers and creating material that readers will want to link to.
Interviewing bloggers or publishing a summary of their responses, are both excellent options in this situation.
The bloggers you’re quoting should link to your article, hopefully. Even if they choose not to link to it, they might post it on social media, which may encourage other, smaller blogs to link to you from their own pages.
17. Guest blogging Improves SEO, Drives Traffic, and Helps You Develop Your Personal Brand
Writing a blog post as a guest for another blog, website, or online publication is known as guest blogging. It’s a great way to get fast access to a variety of blogging perks, and I wish I’d used it to my fullest potential in the early days and months after I launched my blog.
As soon as you have the time to start contacting other bloggers and pitching some blog post ideas, all bloggers should take use of guest blogging. These three incredibly important aims can all be accomplished by guest blogging:
Your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) should be improved. You receive a “bio” with a link to your site when you make a guest article. This signifies a highly important backlink for you if you write for well-known, sizable blogs. Another excellent technique to create backlinks is to frequently include pertinent links within your blog post to information on your own website.
Produce traffic: The blogs you contribute to have regular readers, and at least some of them will be interested in learning more about you and your other writing. They might visit your blog by clicking the link in your bio. The nice part about this traffic is that, despite making up a relatively small portion of your overall traffic, it will probably convert well into email subscribers and possibly even customers. This is due to the fact that readers who arrive at your site via a guest post (a) are already interested in the subjects you write about and (b) have already read and appreciated some of your content.
Builds Your Personal Brand: This SEO benefit might not be immediately apparent, but as more and more people comment that they “see your posts everywhere,” you’ll begin to realize its value. You’ll connect with the same individuals in your blogging area by contributing to a variety of influential, sizable sites. The more posts these people read from you, the more they’ll get to know, like, and trust you.
When done properly, guest blogging will create long-lasting connections with other thought leaders in your field and pave the way for other writing possibilities. I was able to secure contributor articles on magazines like Forbes, Entrepreneur, Business Insider, Fast Company, and others thanks to my guest blog pieces.
18. You Must Create an Email List Right Away (as Soon as Possible)
You’ve undoubtedly previously seen blogging tips encouraging you to immediately start growing your email list. There is a reason why so many bloggers repeat this advise: they regret not developing their lists much earlier. I also wish I had known this advice before starting a blog.
Starting an email list at the same time as setting up your blog may seem like a lot of extra work. It’s also not the end of the world if you decide to launch your blog before inviting viewers to join up for an email list.
You should start constructing your email list as soon as you can, though. Challenge yourself to build an email list if you don’t already have one before you write your next piece if you blog without one.
There are many tools available that make it simple and quick to start up an email list. At least not immediately away, you don’t need to send anything unique to your mailing list. It’s acceptable to just gather email addresses and distribute your blog posts or a weekly digest of them.
To ensure that your subscribers don’t lose interest in you, it’s crucial that you collect email addresses and stay in touch.
19. Social Media Is a Good Source of Traffic (When Used Well)
On social media, new bloggers typically follow one of two paths.
Some people embrace social media with such zeal that it interferes with their blogging. They are always tweeting, making amusing TikTok dances, editing photos for Instagram, and organizing their lovely Pinterest boards.
It’s fine to love hanging out on social media, of course, but it’s a problem if your constant social media use prevents you from generating blog posts on a regular basis.
Some blogs take the opposite approach. They don’t use social media at all because they don’t understand its purpose—obvious it’s that everything they post will get lost in the din.

Using social networking to drive visitors to your site can be incredibly successful. But consistency and striking a balance are key; these are two things I wish I had known before starting a blog.
Spreading oneself across across numerous social media platforms is preferable to concentrating on one or two. Aim to post once or twice every day on the blogging sites that members of your target audience are most likely to use.
Many people, like myself, start blogs with the hopes of making money. I definitely succeeded in realizing my dream because flashreviewz.com now brings in over six figures annually.
But I had to wait a bit to get here. Some of it would have happened more quickly if I had discovered the best ways to monetize my blog. However, if I had known the truth about how long it really takes to produce money from a blog, I could have been more patient and upbeat in the beginning.
20. It Takes Time to Earn Money from a New Blog (6-12 Months Minimum)
When you first start your blog, you might anticipate that within a few weeks, the money will start to come in. Perhaps you envision yourself quitting your day job in a few months.
It’s a fact that monetizing a blog takes time. Think at least 6–12 months. Your blog is probably losing money up until that moment.
As we’ve already seen, increasing blog traffic takes time. To rank highly in search engines, it takes time.
Building a reputation in your industry so that people desire to do business with you takes time as well.
The majority of monetization methods require some time to set up. The greatest ones will be discussed shortly, but bear in mind that none of them are likely to be operational the same day.
Blogging isn’t the greatest choice for you if you need to make consistent money in the next two months or less. Instead, I would advise searching for freelance or a position that allows working from home.
21. Brand sponsorships are the simplest way to start earning money from a blog
There is no one “correct” approach to monetise your blog; instead, most bloggers wind up experimenting with a variety of ideas before choosing a strategy that suits both their audience and their needs.
But there is one revenue stream that I advise newcomers to start with: brand sponsorship.
When a company sponsors your blog, they pay to have a blog article about their good or service featured. That may entail you writing the post and evaluating what they have to give, or it could entail them writing the content for you, which you would then publish.
You will receive a set payment for each sponsored post, making this a perfect method to monetise your blog early on. Your blogging expenses for the entire year could be easily covered by only one or two sponsored posts.
Listen to the conversation I had with Preston Lee for my podcast The Side Hustle Project to learn much more about blog sponsorship.
22. Offering Online Courses and eBooks is a Great Way to Make Money from Your Blog
Many bloggers express the wish that their first digital product had been developed sooner. It’s simple to put off generating a product because you may believe that you lack the expertise to produce a comprehensive course or eBook or that your audience is too small to justify doing so.
One of the best ways to monetize your skills is through online courses and premium eBooks. To do this, all you need to know is more than your readers. You don’t need to have years of experience in your industry.
In fact, bloggers who still recall what it was like to be a novice on a subject frequently produce the best materials. The majority of your readers will be newbies, so your course or eBook might help them navigate all of their concerns as they get started or go forward.
Making your own eBook or course provides your readers with something worthwhile as well. While sponsored posts can generate valuable revenue for you, the readers aren’t always the biggest winners. Your programs or eBooks can have a significant impact and perhaps alter someone’s direction of life.
23. Affiliate Marketing will Increase Your Blog’s Revenue (with Sustainable Traffic Sources)
Affiliate marketing is my main source of blog income and one of my favorite methods of monetization.
As an affiliate, I’m a blogger (or influencer) who promotes the goods and services of other people or brands. I will be compensated with a portion of any purchases made as a result of my customer referrals and recommendations of a valuable product to my audience.
Using a unique link, sometimes referred to as a “affiliate link,” sales are tracked. You must join the appropriate affiliate programs in your niche that have a strong possibility of benefiting your potential readership in order to obtain this connection.
The best part about affiliate marketing is that you can earn money while promoting the products you love. You should only endorse goods and services that you have used yourself; you don’t want to suggest something just because it has a big affiliate payout in case it’s of poor quality or even a fraud.
Your readers don’t pay anything extra, and occasionally affiliate marketing schemes even let you provide your audience a deal on a good or service.
The one disadvantage of affiliate relationships is that consistent traffic is necessary to achieve decent outcomes. Although you can set up your affiliate links right away, you’ll usually discover that it takes a few months to increase your traffic to the point where you start earning any money as an associate.
24. Some other tips
Do not copy the content of other blogs
Many people start blogging by copying content from other websites. Google is very fastidious, you should know it. If Google detects that you copied content from another site, they will penalize your site. Lead to your website rankings will not be high, or even not appear on the search results.
You should know that if your website does not appear on Google, it means you have lost a major source of traffic.
Keep in mind that people who come from Google are more likely to trust the content of your site than those who come from social medias. Because many people will think that high quality content is always displayed on the top of the search results.
You can synthesize a number of articles available, synthesize and rewrite in your understanding. If you copy articles from other websites, you may be subject to copyright lawsuits.
Use Longtail Keywords
I recommend that you choose long keywords, although a little search but it is easy for your website to rank higher on google. Do not be greedy to choose keywords that have high traffic, as the level of competition will be high. Ranking high on search results with these keywords is very difficult for newbies like you.
You should only choose some hard keywords with high search results to comprehensive SEO for your blog. These keywords will indicate the overall content of your blog. For other content please choose longtail keywords to write articles.
Simultaneous use of the short posts and long posts
There are many topics that need more content to present, but there are also topics that do not need to be written too long. Keep researching keywords, you will find short and long topics, then publish the appropriate article.
For example, my blog has this very short article “5 Blog Niches That Get Good Traffic and Make Good Money” but there are lots of hits in this article everyday.
There are many short but useful articles, do not ignore it. Writing short articles is also less time consuming and you can write more articles. A short article with less than 1000 words or more than 500 words is enough.
Long articles are for topics that require a lot of features to present or some main content about your blog topic. It will bring good quality blogs. Long articles can be over 1500 words or more. You can find my blog has many articles have over 2000 words
Create a series of posts
Create a series of articles. When readers are interested in an article, they will tend to find related articles in the same topic!
Do the same thing, there are some very long threads and you can not say all in one or several posts. Create a series of articles and inform your readers through Facebook, Fanpage, Email,… Interested people will read more articles and return to your blog.
When your Series has 3 to 4 posts, you should also create an article that summarizes the order of these articles so that new readers can easily visualize and read in order. As well as making it easier for them to grasp the content
Write authority content
Authority content is content that is always searched on google for years. There are always users who are interested in these content for a long time.
For example, travel blogs have a number of topics as follows:
- Where to travel in the spring / summer / autumn / winter, …?
- What should you eat in…?
- Where to go when you come…?
Get as focused as possible on these long-lasting topics. These will have year-round searches on Google. You will get plenty of hits and “forever”, these topics never disappear.
Write about trending topics
The trending topic will have a lot of interest over a period of time and will be forgotten after a while, but you should not ignore it. There are two ways to get these trending articles to the reader:
- Post your posts on communities, Facebook group, … that have topics related to this article
- If your website has many traffic, please create a separate group or email them
You can apply both, but note that trending articles require you to provide accurate information if you do not want to receive negative feedback from readers.
If you timely update hot topics, there will be more people interested in your blog than they will think your blog updates quickly. In the future when there is something new they will likely return to your blog.
Moreover, trending articles will help Google evaluate your website higher. So go explore social networking, forums and find out what’s being most interested in your topic, write articles about them.
